Proposal · prepared for Bodenhams of Ludlow · 19 May 2026

A few specific fixes for bodenhams.co.uk.

Bodenhams of Ludlow · Ludlow, Shropshire · website rebuild

I rebuild small-business sites in my spare time when I can see they are leaving conversions on the table. Three things stood out on mobile when I opened bodenhams.co.uk over coffee on Tuesday. Three findings below, then a working rebuild you can click through.

1-2 Broad Street · Ludlow · family run since 1860

165 years of an independent shop in a timber-framed building that pre-dates the founding by 455 years. Open the live preview ↗

Three findings, observed on the live site

What the live site is leaving on the table.

Walked through bodenhams.co.uk on a phone, then on a laptop, on 19 May 2026.

01

A 1405 timber building and an 1860 founding story, both one click deep behind a Fransa SS26 banner.

Observation
The homepage at bodenhams.co.uk opens with a Shopify hero banner for the Fransa Spring Summer 2026 collection. The 1405 timber-framed building on the corner of Broad Street and King Street, the 1860 William Bodenham founding story, and Roger and Monika Curry, only appear at /pages/about-bodenhams-in-ludlow, one navigation click below the fold. A first-time visitor browsing in Ludlow has no way to know from the homepage that the building above the shop pre-dates the Bodenham name above the door by 455 years.
After rebuild
After rebuild: a static Astro page that paints the timber shopfront, the 1405 date, and the words "family run since 1860" in the first frame on mobile. The Ludlow stone of the church tower, the lime plaster between the beams, and the heritage red of the Bodenhams signage panel set the page palette. The Shopify product catalogue stays on the Shopify subdomain where it belongs.
02

No DepartmentStore schema, no FAQPage, no AggregateRating; the BIRA and STAR Lingerie finalist runs are invisible to Google.

Observation
A crawl of the live homepage surfaces a partial Shopify-default Organization JSON-LD, no DepartmentStore, no HomeGoodsStore, no LocalBusiness, no FAQPage, no AggregateRating block. The BIRA Independent Shop of the Year finalist runs in 2015 and 2016, the STAR Lingerie Awards finals in 2014 and 2015, and the five-star Trustpilot review profile do not reach Google. The Open Graph card is the Shopify default rather than a hosted shopfront photograph, so a regular forwarding the link in WhatsApp sees a blank unfurl.
After rebuild
After rebuild: DepartmentStore + HomeGoodsStore + LocalBusiness + FAQPage JSON-LD at build time, with the full Broad Street postal address, 01584 872 786 in E.164, the seven-day opening hours including Sunday 12 to 16, and an AggregateRating tied to the genuine Trustpilot review profile. The five-star reviews and the BIRA and STAR finals start to show in Google.
03

Sixteen lingerie houses on the counter, but the homepage gives lingerie one tile among nine.

Observation
The lingerie collection at Bodenhams carries Wacoal, PrimaDonna, Marie Jo, Panache, Fantasie, Elomi, LingaDore, Triumph, Gossard, Sloggi, Cottonreal, Aruelle, Corin, Anita and Pretty Polly. The brand list is the working evidence of a lingerie destination, not a clothing shop that happens to sell underwear. The homepage gives the specialism one square on a nine-tile category grid, level with mugs and lanterns. The Trustpilot reviewer who wrote "a unique and beautiful shop with a wide range of clothing and lingerie" is talking about a counter that does not lead the homepage.
After rebuild
After rebuild: the lingerie counter gets its own block, the sixteen lingerie houses are named, the STAR Lingerie Awards finals appear with the dates, and the bra-fitting questions Trustpilot reviewers ask move into a FAQPage block at the foot of the page. Menswear, ladieswear and homeware keep their own equivalent rooms in the rebuild.

Next step

If the proposal lands.

Reply with two or three 20-minute slots in the next ten days for a video call. I take on three Shropshire builds this quarter, and the first confirmed wins the slot. If I do not hear back by 29 May 2026, the proposal site comes down.
